Save Adam Guerrero's Garden
In a nutshell
Adam Guerrero is a math teacher at Raleigh Egypt High School in Memphis, Tn. At his home, Adam and his students grow a garden, raise honeybees, compost, make bio-fuel and soap. He provides after-school activities for these young men and children in his inner city neighborhood by teaching them these skills that they would never otherwise learn. After an unknown complaint to code enforcement about his property, Adam appeared in court to defend his garden home. However, Judge Larry Potter upheld the ruling that deems Adam's garden a public nuisance and ordered it be removed. Adam is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, September 23rd to prove that he has complied with the orders. Please help us share his story and communicate to the Court system that this is not okay and that Adam should be allowed to keep what him and the kids have built at his home.

To learn more...
On September 15, 2011 I read an article in the Memphis Flyer about a teacher at Raleigh Egypt High School who, with the help of his students, maintains a garden, keeps bees, collects rain water, raises earthworms, makes bio-diesel fuel and soap all on their own time with their own money. Mr. Adam Guerrero was in the paper because Memphis City Code Enforcement and Judge Larry Potter are forcing him to tear down his garden, get rid of his rain barrels, pond and earthworms because they have been deemed a public nuisance. All because one single person complained.
My first reaction was rage. I yelled "THIS CANNOT HAPPEN!"
My second reaction was to gather the masses, spread the word and start this campaign to save Adam's garden. This blog was created to keep everyone up to date; the response we have received is outstanding and very overwhelming! I wish I could thank you all one by one!
Here are links to everything we have started so far. Please leave comments or send us emails with links to places the story has been published so we can add them for everyone to access. Thank you for helping make a difference!
